Protecting the seas is crucial
Over 80% of global trade is transported by sea. Any disruptions could have disastrous results, ranging from increased costs of goods to food insecurity and higher carbon emissions due to alternative transport methods.
As the maritime industry increasingly relies on digital technologies for navigation, cargo management, and communications, the risk of cyberattacks becoming one of the main reasons for disruptions rises.
Maritime professionals need to know how to react to cyber risks. What’s the best way of assuring they do?
A CDeX training tailored specifically to their unique circumstances.

How can CDeX cyber range improve your cybersecurity abilities?
CDeX is a Cyber Defence Exercise Platform, that was originally founded in 2016 as a project within Vector Synergy. Since then, it has grown to become the most advanced cybersecurity training platform, offering various trainings and allowing cybersecurity professionals to build cyber defence competencies and acquire skills in live cyberwarfare conditions.
Learn by participating in real-world situations.
Train against latest malicious tactics, as our scenarios are built using MITRE ATT&CK® framework—a global standard for understanding and countering cyber tactics.
Receive a guide before you start your training scenario, that helps you prepare for the attack you’re about to face.
After you complete the training, you receive detailed performance metrics that tell you where to improve.
Practice anywhere, anytime. The cyber range can be deployed virtually or on-premises, giving you the flexibility to practice whenever you have the time.

What is the maritime cybersecurity simulation scenario?
The training scenario for maritime professionals available on the CDeX cyber range was created in collaboration with Shipadvisors and Antwerp Maritime Academy.
The training will help you test your skills and make sure you:
Know how to react in real-world situations
When a cyberattack happens, you can’t stop performing your maritime operations duties to focus solely on the threat. The training takes that into consideration and will help you develop critical thinking skills and learn how to make decisions quickly.
Recognise and respond to a range of threats
Find out how it looks when your ship is under a cyberattack in a controlled environment, so that you know what to do when it happens in real life.
Know what to expect from future threats
The training utilises both current and emerging attack methods, which means you’ll be ready to handle even the latest and most unexpected threats.
What our clients say
The scenario opens aboard the MV Vigilant Sailor, a 150-meter tanker navigating from Tees Port to Antwerp.
The participants take on crucial roles: Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or Ship Master, and they are expected to perform their regular duties, such as those related to cargo documentation and safety compliance.
But then, something unexpected happens. The tanker is under a cyberattack.
The participants start receiving phishing emails disguised as operational messages, malware gets hidden in software updates, and there are spear-phishing attempts that target sensitive ship systems. Throughout all that time, they need to divide their focus between repelling these attacks and performing their regular duties.
Will the participants maintain control over critical ship functions?
Or is MV Vigilant Sailor doomed?
4 levels of difficulty
The scenario eases the players into progressively more demanding challenges. At the beginning, they face routine tasks, but as more time passes, their job becomes increasingly difficult, and the pressure rises.
Cyberattacks on navigational systems
Once the players get to level 4, they need to protect the ship’s Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). They encounter GPS jamming, AIS spoofing (where fake vessels appear on the chart), and data tampering that affects speed and depth readings. With such attacks, the ship’s safety is truly under threat.
